Coimbatore: Uncertainty over Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations has hit sculptors in the city badly. While they used to get orders for Ganesh idols till this time of the year, this year they have so far only been inquired by the district administration about the possibility of allowing them to celebrate the festival in public places.

There are five major Ganesh idol making units in the city. They make sculptures from 1 feet to 13 feet high. While idols ranging in size from 1 ft to 3.5 ft are mainly used for domestic worship, larger idols are used by religious organizations and associations of residents to be installed in public places.
