CM Kejriwal, Manoj Tiwari and many others: Despite Omicron, Kovid steps into political circles amid poll rallies

With multiple assembly elections slated for this year, political rallies and functions are in full swing, even as the emergence of the highly-contagious omicron in various Indian states has led to a spurt in Covid-19 cases .

On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been campaigning for his Aam Aadmi Party in UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Goa, said he tested positive for the disease and went into isolation. Later, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari announced this saying that he was displaying ‘mild symptoms’ of the virus.

According to experts, the third wave of Kovid-19 has started in India, inspired by Omicron. While its disease variant has been termed less lethal than Delta, which caused a devastating second wave in April and May last year, it is still considered one of the most infectious forms the world has ever seen. Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that he has tested positive for Covid-19, saying he has “mild symptoms” and was in isolation at home.

Taking to Twitter, he said: “I have tested positive for COVID. Mild symptoms. Isolated myself at home. Those who came in contact with me in the last few days, please isolate yourself and get yourself tested.”

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener had campaigned in Uttarakhand on Monday after visiting other poll-bound states like Punjab and Goa.

During the devastating second wave of the pandemic in the country in April 2021, the Chief Minister along with his wife Sunita had tested positive for the virus.

Tuesday’s development comes as a rise in daily Covid-19 cases in the national capital, 4,099 fresh infections in the city and a positivity rate of 6.89 per cent till Monday evening.

Manoj Tiwari

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari on Tuesday said that he has tested positive for Covid-19.

In a series of tweets, he said: “Could not attend the Uttarakhand-Rudrapur election campaign yesterday as I was not feeling well since the night of January 2. I have tested positive for Covid-19. I had isolated myself yesterday as a precaution.

“Please take care of yourself and your family.”

Mahendra Nath Pandey

Union Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey was admitted to a hospital here on Monday after he tested positive for COVID-19. 65-year-old Pandey, who is a BJP MP from Chandauli constituency, had earlier also tested positive for coronavirus.

“I was unwell for the last two days due to which I did the COVID test and the report came back positive. All the people who came in contact with me in the last few days are requested to take care of themselves and get the necessary tests done.” The minister was admitted to Yashoda Hospital in Kaushambi.

Babul Supriyo

TMC leader Babul Supriyo on Tuesday announced that he and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19.

“Me, my wife, dad, many employees, hv all tested positive but my worry is the exorbitant price of cocktail jab 61000/- which needs to be given SOS to critically ill #COVID19 patients. Dad who is 84 years old needed JAB SOS and I had to buy it on the spot. How can EWS afford it? (sic),” the leader said on Twitter.

Supriyo further said that this was his third time testing positive for the virus. “Not really worried about the positivity, but the huge number of persons contracted and there is no way to trace who gave it. Very few people are wearing masks,” he said.

Former Bihar CM Jitan Manjhi

Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and 17 others, including family members and employees, tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, a party leader said.

Hindustani Awam Morcha chief spokesperson Danish Rizwan said that Manjhi and other family members are currently in home isolation in their native village Mehkar in Gaya district. Apart from Manjhi, his wife Shanti Devi, daughter Pushpa Devi, daughter-in-law and MLA Deepa Manjhi, other family members, security guards, his personal assistant and other officials were found infected.

“Manjhi and other family members were suffering from cough and cold for the past few days. When he got his RT-PCR test done, his report came back positive,” Rizwan said.

Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh

Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh has tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.

The minister, who shared information on social media, has requested all the people who came in contact with him to isolate and get tested. They have been tested after showing minor symptoms. He is being treated by quarantine.

Officials are more concerned with this development as Nagesh has attended several events in Bengaluru and other places in the recent past.

10 minutes, 20 MLAs test positive, says Maha Deputy CM Ajit Pawar

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Saturday that more than 10 ministers and over 20 MLAs have tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra.

“We recently shortened the assembly session. So far, more than 10 ministers and over 20 MLAs have tested positive for coronavirus. Everyone wants to be a part of New Year celebrations, birthdays and other occasions. Keep in mind that the new version (Omicron) spreads fast and hence caution is needed,” Pawar was quoted as saying by PTI.

Maha Minister Yashomati Thakur

Maharashtra’s Women and Child Development Minister and Amravati Guardian Minister Yashomati Thakur recently tested positive for coronavirus.

Thakur himself announced the news and urged anyone who had come in contact with him recently to get tested. The Guardian Minister is receiving medical treatment despite the fact that he is asymptomatic.

Eknath Shinde

Shiv Sena leader and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde announced that he has tested positive for Covid-19.

“I have tested positive for Covid. Isolated myself at home. All the people who came in contact with me are requested to get themselves tested as a precaution. Take care..!” she said.
