Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday urged the Center to provide 1,300 million gallons per day (MGD) water to Delhi, saying it would help ensure round-the-clock water supply in the city. The CM said this while inaugurating the underground water reservoir in Patparganj village. Kejriwal said that the Delhi government is trying to increase the availability of water in the city.

“Delhi used to get 800-850 MGD of water around 1997-98, when it had a population of around 8 million. It is getting the same amount of water now, even though the population has tripled to 25 million. made available,” said the chief minister.

“If 1,300 MGD of water is made available to the city by the Centre, we will supply round-the-clock water to every household in Delhi,” the CM said. He also assured the residents of Delhi that their water bills would be rectified in case of any discrepancy and suggested that they keep paying the charges until the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) comes up with a plan for the same. would bring.

Kejriwal said that Delhi can be provided water from neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and his government will work for it. He said that apart from water from Yamuna, Ganga and neighboring states, Delhi is also working to increase the availability of water through local sources.

Kejriwal said that in the last seven years, the availability of water in Delhi through water treatment plants, tube wells and rain-fed wells has increased from 861 MGD to 990 MGD. He said that the Delhi government has constructed twelve reservoirs and three treatment plants in the last seven years.
