BENGALURU: With over 34,000 fresh cases on Sunday pushing the number of active Covid-19 infections in Karnataka near two lakh, new cases are expected to rise by the second week of February before falling.
Reiterating that the fresh cases would peak during the second week of February, Health Minister K Sudhakar said they would decrease thereafter, reducing the rate of transmission and the severity of the infection. Over 1.9 lakh, the state’s burden of active cases increased by almost 300% in just one week. The number of such cases stood at 49,602 on January 9.
“Covid-19 is there all over the world, but we can be satisfied that we are not getting hospitalized as before because of mass vaccination,” the health minister told reporters at an event on Sunday. “People are experiencing mild symptoms and the demand for ICU facilities, beds and oxygen support is limited. Research by the Government Health Society and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has indicated that there will be a decrease in cases after the second and third weeks of February. We will do everything to successfully maintain public health and order. ,
The health department’s daily bulletin on Sunday showed Bengaluru Urban – as has been the trend – reported the highest number of new cases on Sunday (21,071), followed by Mysuru (1,892), Tumakuru (1,373) and Hassan (1,171). Stayed.
The state on Sunday reported 13 deaths due to COVID-19, of which five were in Bengaluru Urban and two in Dakshina Kannada. The deceased were between 40 and 90 years old and more than half of them had comorbidities.
According to the daily bulletin, the health department had conducted 4,835 counseling sessions till January 15 and had counseled over 24.2 lakh patients so far.
In view of the rising number of cases, the government has appealed to the people to isolate themselves if they have come in contact with any COVID-19 positive person, whether they have symptoms or not.
