Arnhem players were celebrating on the pitch in front of their fans when the bottom of the stand collapsed.

A small section of the stand at Dutch top-flight club NEC Nijmegen’s Gofert Stadium collapsed on Sunday as fans of Vitesse Arnhem celebrated their team’s 1-0 victory. There was no report of any casualties.

Arnhem players were celebrating on the pitch in front of their fans when the bottom of the stand collapsed. About 35 people were standing on the affected side.

One player put his hand on his head as it happened when other players punched him in the air when it became clear that no one was hurt.

The fan mounted sharply upwards, away from the affected part of the stand.

NEC director Wilko van Schyck told Dutch broadcaster NOS that as far as he is aware, no one was injured. “There was a container under the stand and it didn’t lead to anything serious,” he said.

Nijmegen Mayor Hubert Bruels said he was shocked.

“Luckily, as far as we know, no one was injured. I want an investigation into what happened here as soon as possible,” Brules told NOS.

Vitesse midfielder Richelieu Bazoar was among the players celebrating with fans.

“It was a shock,” he told NOS. “Luckily…everyone survived,” he said.
