Thousands of climate activists in the Netherlands demanding an end to government subsidies for the fossil fuel industry faced police water cannons on Saturday. Over 10,000 individuals marched along the A12 highway leading to The Hague, despite warnings from authorities not to obstruct this crucial traffic route to the Dutch capital.
In a statement, the police disclosed that they had detained 2,400 protesters, including minors, but fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.
Extinction Rebellion, the organizing group, has vowed to persist with protests until the Dutch government ceases to allocate public funds to support the oil and gas sector.

Chanting slogans like “The seas are rising and so are we,” the demonstrators, which encompassed people of all ages, made their voices heard.
