Class IX, X students will help in biodiversity research. Goa News – Times of India

Panaji : After the MoU (Memorandum of understanding) was signed between Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) and State Education Board, Goa Board of Secondary And upper secondary education The U.S. has asked schools that students studying in classes IX and X will participate in surveys and research projects in their school area to learn about biodiversity and climate change.
“Goa Board and GSBB have signed MoU with an aim to spread awareness among students about biodiversity and its importance for human welfare. Students and teachers will be able to give legal help Biodiversity Management Committees (BMC) through this initiative of the Board in its gram panchayats/municipalities and other areas under the Biodiversity Act 2002,” states the circular to the schools.
The board has said that GSBB will organize various training programmes, seminars, awareness campaigns, rallies, street plays and other such activities for the students and Goa Board will provide necessary support to the schools for the programmes.
The circular said, “The Goa Board shall assist the GSBB through their faculty and students in their field work and/or research work, as and when decided mutually, from the people’s biodiversity register and other biodiversity In preparation for related projects and initiatives.” GSBB will support teachers and students in conducting empirical research in the field of biodiversity.
The People’s Biodiversity Register lists the biodiversity in plant, animal and insect life present in a particular village or municipal area.
The Goa Board told the schools that student volunteers would also assist in establishing new or expanding existing activities of the institute’s ecoclubs and committees.
