A class 9 student in a government school in Andhra Pradesh reached school under the influence of alcohol. The minor boy had consumed alcohol despite the state government’s plan to restrict the consumption of alcohol in the area. The school administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The student works near a brick making factory. The student is enrolled in a government high school in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

The boy claims that his father used to drink every day. The incident also raises concerns over the imposition of a ban on the sale of liquor in the state. All the liquor shops in AP are now under government control and have become a topic of discussion now.

However, this is not the first time such an incident has happened in AP. Last year a similar incident took place at a government high school in Atmakuru in Kurnool district. Five students were found drinking in the school. The student who came home drunk took alcohol in his school bag.

“We have ordered a zonal inquiry into the consumption of alcohol in schools. We have contacted the principals of all the schools in the zone. The headmasters of all the schools were informed that this incident did not happen in our school. The authorities have ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the incident. We will investigate it at the regional level and submit a detailed report. Selling alcohol to children below 21 years of age in a liquor store is prohibited. If it turned out to be true that he drank in school. We will also look into how the boy got the liquor,” Ambajipeta Mandal Education Officer C Gannavaram said.
