Class 12th, CUET is enough to get admission in Delhi University

From the academic year 2022-23, students will only need to pass class 12 and CUET to be eligible for admission Delhi University (DU), proposed to consider the passing marks in Common University Entrance Test (CUET) The cut-off for admission, not as before, was passed by the executive council of the university during its meeting on Friday. The University also accepted the proposal to set up the Delhi School of Analytics (DSA) under the Institute of Eminence.

DSA will offer short and long term certificate courses, diploma and degree programs that will enhance the business analytical skills of the students. The council also accepted a proposal to borrow money from the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA), despite some members showing dissent.

DU will submit a proposal of Rs 1,075.40 crore to HEFA for infrastructure development and creation of capital assets. As per the HEFA funding pattern, the university has to repay the loan in 20 bi-annual installments over 10 years.

Dissenting members were apprehensive that the HEFA proposal would shift a publicly funded university from a grant-based model to a debt-based model of funding and lead the university to a debt trap.

He strongly opposed the “dangerous movement towards privatization and a steep increase in student fees” and said that taking loans was “unacceptable”. In another development, members of the Executive Council raised the issue of the College of Art not starting the admission process, following which it was decided to send a letter to its principal, seeking clarification. DU was informed that the office of the Lieutenant Governor had given in-principle approval to merge the College of Art with Ambedkar University, subject to affiliation from DU.

However, the university has not approved the de-affiliation as its executive council, the highest decision-making body, has opposed the move. The Executive Council also approved the proposal to set up the Institute of Nanomedical Sciences (INMS). During the meeting, some members of the Executive Council demanded that one-time regulation should be implemented for the absorption of all ad-hoc/temporary teachers of DU and they demanded to constitute a committee to give effect to it.
