Chief Justice of India i.e. CJI NV Ramana has said that the CBI has lost its credibility. He said that the CBI should focus on regaining public trust. Justice Ramana said on Friday, “If you have to regain credibility, then first of all you have to break ties with politicians and work again to restore credibility.”
According to the news agency, during the lecture on the topic ‘Role and Responsibility of Investigating Agency in Democracy’, the Chief Justice said, ‘Political executives will change with time, but you (CBI) are permanent’. The CJI also commented on the police system in India. He said that the working style of the police is still like the British era. It needs to be changed.
The Chief Justice advised the CBI to stay away from political alliances and said, “Political executives will change with time, but you are permanent.”
become an autonomous investigative agency in the country
The Chief Justice said that there is a need to bring all the investigating agencies including CBI under one roof and for this an autonomous investigating agency should be made. He further said that the responsibility should be given to an independent person.
Justice Ramana said there is a need to set up an autonomous investigation body to keep the investigating agencies independent.
Modern technology and lack of trained officers
The Chief Justice said that while the work load with the Central Agency is high, it has a severe shortage of resources. He said that CBI does not have many basic infrastructure including modern technology, tender officers. Because of this many times it becomes difficult to solve the case.
