‘Civil war likely if Taliban fails to form inclusive government’: Pakistan PM Imran Khan

Imran Khan on Taliban: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday called on the Taliban to form an inclusive government and warned them that failure to do so could lead to civil war in Afghanistan and make the country an “ideal place” for terrorists, As reported by DAWN.

Imran Khan also said that barring women from receiving education in Afghanistan would be un-Islamic. Imran Khan said in an interview to the BBC, “If they don’t involve all the factions, then sooner or later there will be a civil war between them. That would mean an unstable, chaotic Afghanistan and an ideal place for terrorists. It is a matter of concern.”

Discussions with Taliban for an inclusive government

Earlier, Pakistan’s PM, Imran Khan said on Saturday that he has initiated talks with the Taliban for an inclusive Afghanistan government comprising Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbeks. At the same time, the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) also called for an inclusive government in the war-torn country. Inclusive government which was said to include representatives of all ethnic, religious and political groups.

In August, after taking control of Afghanistan, the Taliban promised an “inclusive” government that would represent Afghanistan’s complex ethnic composition. However, there is neither a member of the Hazara community nor a woman in the 33-member interim cabinet.
