Prayagraj: After several incidents in Sangam city, where two-wheeler or cyclist riders suffered serious injuries to their neck and face after running into a thin Chinese kite thread or manja on any of the city’s flyovers, there is welcome news for commuters who Often cross these flyovers.
After getting approval from the state government, 11 flyovers in the city will be set up with ‘view cutters’, the fiber-walls that are installed on both sides of the flyover. The state government has sanctioned an amount of 20 crores for installation of view-cutter on the flyover of Prayagraj as well as the neighboring district of Kaushambi. Due to these view-cutters, passengers will have a six-feet wall next to them which will protect them while crossing the flyover.
Significantly, in the last several years, there have been many such cases in the city, in which travelers have got stuck in the Chinese thread used to fly kites. The district police is taking strict action against those who are in the business of selling this Chinese made yarn and has even raided several shops, especially in the old city area. However, despite all the efforts, the sale of this ‘dangerous thread’ in the city is not taking its name to stop.
It so happens that the local people living in the areas located apart from all the major flyovers of the city fly kites using this Chinese thread which is quite strong and can be fatal when one gets into the thread, leaving the affected area injured. Serious injury can occur if the thread comes into contact.
Now, with view-cutters being installed on both sides of the city’s flyovers, commuters will not run into this thread, thereby eliminating the possibility of any such incidents in future.
According to RK Singh, chief engineer of the bridge corporation, “ignored” cutter Rambagh flyover (which is one of the major places where such incidents have happened in the past), flyover in water tank, flyover at Chaufatka, flyover at Alopibagh, MNNIT will be set up on several flyovers of the city including railways. Overbridge, Phulpur Overbridge, Karchana Overbridge, Naini Overbridge, Kaushambi ka Sayara Overbridge, Sirathu Overbridge (Kaushambi) and Manouri will be fitted with a view cutter.
