Australia’s Queensland and New South Wales are currently facing their worst floods in decades. With tens and thousands of people ordered to evacuate their homes, many more were told to prepare to flee as parts of Australia’s southeast coast were flooded by devastating floods. In such challenging circumstances, hundreds of people have voluntarily helped those in distress. Appreciating those facing hardships amid the natural calamity, Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth on Wednesday gave a shout out to the “true heroes” who are helping without hesitation by joining the rescue mission.
The 38-year-old star shared a note on Instagram appreciating those who helped the victims during the floods. Along with the note, Chris Hemsworth shared a carousel of photos, which showed the disastrous landscape of his native land. In the first picture it is raining heavily, in the second picture a man is shown saving a woman imprisoned in a house filled with water on the ghat. The post also has a picture of an entire residential area submerged in flood waters.
One of the photos shows a post from an ABC news report that talks about a flotilla of privateers and boats putting their lives at risk for people’s safety. In the last photo featured in the post, Chris Hemsworth wrote, “So proud of the boys who saved lives in the flood rescue on Jetski and Tinies,” and commended the people who volunteered to help.
In the caption, Chris wrote, “It is absolutely devastating to see some of the worst floods in Australian history hit Queensland and NSW.”
“Valourous effort by all those involved in rescuing thousands of stranded people. Lots of love to all those who have been affected and a big slogan to all those who had a boat or jet ski and went straight to the rescue mission without hesitation. True hero. 🙏🙏 @joelparko @lukemun @mfanno @markmathewssurf @ryanhipwood @tricychook @bededurbo @azzagraham @craigparryphotography @hothusband_ and many more,” said the actor as he shouted out to people helping people in trouble.
Eleven people have died, inundated city centres, homes caught fire and power lines cut across Australia since extreme weather hit last weekend.
