China-India Border Situation Stable, Beijing Attaches Importance to Bilateral Relations: Vice FM Sun Weidong

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong’s remarks came during talks with Indian Ambassador to China Pradeep Kumar Rawat on January 18.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong said that at present the situation on the China-India border is stable and both sides should view bilateral relations from a comprehensive and long-term perspective.

Weidong further said that both India And China should implement the important consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries and strengthen communication, China’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

“The situation at the China-India border is generally stable at this time, and is switching from emergency response to normalized management and control. The statement said that the two sides should stand tall and look into the distance, view bilateral relations from a broad and long-term perspective, and implement the important consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries.

The Chinese Vice Foreign Minister’s remarks came during talks with Indian Ambassador to China Pradeep Kumar Rawat on January 18 (Wednesday).

“China has always been committed to its foreign policy goals of maintaining world peace and promoting common development. China has bright prospects for development, and it will bring new opportunities for India and all other countries in the world and present the world with more certainties and stabilizing factors.

Beijing also called India a major developing country and an emerging economy and said that China attaches great importance to China-India relations.

“India, with multiple identities such as an ancient civilization, a major developing country and a major emerging economy, is an important neighboring country of China and China has always attached great importance to China-India relations,” the statement said.

Sun Weidong took over as China’s Vice Foreign Minister in November last year after completing his tenure as the Chinese ambassador to India for three years.

Sun met Indian Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat and briefed him on the importance of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the statement said.

Since April 2020, several rounds of diplomatic and military-level meetings have taken place on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) situation between India and China.
