Chidambaram: Congress Chidambaram taunts TMC’s math behind the promise of monthly income support. India News – Times of India

Panaji: Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram Criticized All India Trinamool on Sunday Congress ,TMC) The party’s promise to provide Rs 5000 as monthly universal income support to 3.5 lakh families, is saying. Chidambaram Said that the scheme, which would be operated through women heading a household, would put a heavy burden on Goa’s finances.

Chidambaram took a jibe at TMC, saying that their mathematics “deserves the Nobel Prize for Economics”.
“A monthly grant of Rs 5000 to a woman in 3.5 lakh households in Goa would cost Rs 175 crore a month. That is, Rs 2100 crore annually. This is a “small” amount for the state of Goa, which had outstanding debt of Rs 23,473 crore at the end of March 2020, Chidambaram said.
“God bless Goa! Or should it be the God saving Goa?” They said.
Lok Sabha MP and AITC Goa in-charge Mahua Moitra Chidambaram was quick to respond. Moitra said, “Yes sir Chidambaram, Rs 5000 to 3.5 lakhs of Goa is Rs 2100 crores, which is 6-8% of the total budget which is completely possible.”
The TMC MP said, “Good economics in the gloomy post-Covid scenario requires cash in hand and liquidity in the system.”
Meanwhile, TMC office-bearer Kiran Kandolkar slammed the Congress, saying revenue loss of Rs 35,000 crore through illegal mining is yet to be recovered. Referring to former Chief Minister and Congress MLA Digambar Kamat, Kandolkar said that the Congress should put the interests of the people first.
“Rs 2,000 crore per year for all Goa families hurts Congress. Moral science comes before mathematics,” Kandolkar said.
Interestingly, it was the Congress party that first mooted the idea of a minimum income guarantee program called NYAY. Nyuntam Ayay Yojana for the 2019 parliamentary elections. The Congress party had assured that it would provide an income support of Rs 72,000 to the poorest families of the country.
