Chhattisgarh: Woman Naxalite gunned down in Kanker encounter

Chhattisgarh: On Monday, a woman Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security personnel. An encounter took place between security personnel and Naxalites in the forests of Kanker district of Chhattisgarh. According to Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P, the encounter took place around 7 a.m. in the forest near Binagunda village under Chhotebethia police station area, when the security personnel were out on an anti-Naxal operation.

The operation was launched on Sunday based on information about the presence of 20 to 25 armed cadres and Maoist leaders attached to the Rajnandgaon-Kanker Border Division (RKB). Personnel from the 132nd Battalion of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Border Security Force (BSF) were involved in the operation,” the IG said.

After the firing stopped from both sides, the body of an unidentified woman Naxalite in uniform was found nearby with a .303 rifle, he said, adding that a search operation was on at the spot.
