Chhattisgarh: Rakesh Tikait to address ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ in Rajim today

Organizers of the program informed that Rakesh Tikait will address ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ at Rajim in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh today. The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader will be accompanied by Yogendra Yadav, Medha Patkar and others. Tejram Vidrohi, convener of CKMM’s organizing committee, told on Monday that this program will be held in the Krishi Upaj Mandi premises under the aegis of Chhattisgarh Kisan Mazdoor Mahasangh (CKMM), an umbrella organization of agricultural organizations from 11 am.

“Apart from withdrawing the three agriculture laws, we also want the Center to enact a law to ensure minimum support price (MSP) guarantee for agricultural produce,” he said.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA and former minister Brijmohan Agarwal called the event “state-sponsored”, with Chhattisgarh CM and Congress ministers expressing support to save their face.

He said, “Tikait ji if the yatra won’t do anything, he is just wasting his time. There is no such provision in these bills which should harm the interest of farmers and labourers.”

The three laws, namely the Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020, were. It was passed by Parliament in September last year.

While those opposing these laws have claimed that the Center is trying to bring corporates and private firms into the agriculture sector at the cost of farmers, the central government has said that the purpose of these laws is to increase the income of farmers.
