The Congress on Wednesday appointed state health minister TS Singh Deo as deputy chief minister to address the growing factional war in the state unit ahead of the Chhattisgarh assembly elections later this year.

Singh Deo was upset with current Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel for being denied the rotational CM post, party sources said, adding that there was an agreement with the VIP when the Congress won the state elections in 2018.

According to sources, the Congress may also take steps to resolve the differences between CM Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot in Rajasthan.

In the near future, the Congress will defend its assemblies in both Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

According to a statement issued by the party, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has supported the proposal to appoint Singh Deo as the Vice President in Chhattisgarh.

Singh Deo and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel have been at loggerheads ever since the party came to power in the state in 2018.

Today, Baghel and Singh Deo traveled to New Delhi to meet the party’s top leadership and talk about strategy and how prepared the party is for the elections. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, state in-charge of the party Kumari Selja and general secretary, association, KC Venugopal were among the leaders who attended the party central command meeting.
