Chhattisgarh: 10-year-old boy falls in borewell; rescue operation underway

Rescue efforts were underway after a 10-year-old boy fell into a borewell while playing at the back of his house in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir.

According to sources, Lala Sahu, a resident of Piharid village in Janjgir-Champa district, had dug a borewell behind his house. Her son Rahul allegedly fell into it on Friday afternoon.

District Collector and Superintendent of Police and other officers were present on the occasion. A government statement said that they were instructed by CM Bhupesh Baghel to rescue the child safely.

Excavator machines and ambulances are standing and oxygen is being supplied to Rahul through thin pipes inside the pit, officials said. “Though the pit is 80 feet deep, the boy is probably trapped at 60 feet,” said an officer present at the spot.
