Chennai Metro extends travel hours on public demand, check new timings

Chennai Metro Rail services have been running with 50 per cent seating facility since June 21 after Tamil Nadu government announced relaxations after a month-long lockdown in the state in view of the second wave of coronavirus.

However, with further relaxation of curfew in the state amid a drop in Covid-19 cases, the demand for metro rail services in the city has increased, following which Chennai Metro Rail has announced that trains will operate from 5.30 am on Thursday. Will be done by 9 pm. .

Following this announcement, Chennai Metro Rail started its service an hour ago from today to meet the demand and convenience of the passengers.

During peak hours i.e. from 8 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 8 pm trains will run at an interval of 5 minutes for one hour. Metro Rail will run at an interval of every 10 minutes during normal traffic hours.

According to CMRL officials, it has constituted a special team to monitor the appropriate behavior of the passengers for COVID-19 which includes wearing of masks.

According to officials, a fine of Rs 6,800 has been imposed so far on 34 persons who entered the metro premises without wearing and properly wearing masks.
