Chennaiyin FC, two-time champions of the Indian Super League, are eyeing a third title win and are in the process of building a strong team that can achieve it for them. One of the most successful ISL franchises has now signed Manipuri midfielder Yumkhaibam Jiteshwar Singh for several years ahead of the next season. Chennaiyin FC has seen young talent, who performed brilliantly for Neroca FC in the I-League in which he was adjudged the best emerging player.
Excited after his maiden ISL contract, Jiteshwar said: “I can’t wait for the pre-season and meeting my new teammates. I will work hard to play in the starting eleven”. Singh has an excellent record of spending 1500 minutes on the pitch, with 12 league and five championship stage matches. The addition of Yumkhaibam Jiteshwar Singh adds more skill to Chennaiyin FC’s midfield which already includes captain Anirudh Thapa, who was retained by the club on a two-year deal earlier.
So far, Singh has featured in three I-League seasons in his career. The midfielder, who made his debut with Orange Brigade in 2020, has also appeared for Kolkata-based Bhawanipore FC on three occasions in I-League qualifiers. Opening on Singh’s contract, Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dani said, “We are excited to see Jiteshwar in the colors of Chennaiyin FC, especially after being awarded the season’s emerging player of the season in the I-League last year. . That’s a real positive signing. For us and our vision this season.” Till now, Jiteshwar has played 40 professional matches in his career.
