Chennai couple arrested for Coimbatore call taxi driver murder | Coimbatore News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: The rural police on Friday arrested a Chennai-based couple for murdering a call taxi driver near Coimbatore on Tuesday. Police said the couple, who were facing murder cases in Chennai, injected some drugs into the driver’s body and murdered him.
The arrested couple have been identified as S Stephan, 40, of KK Nagar in Chennai and his second wife Amalorpavam. Stephan, a postgraduate, had been working as a network engineer in a private firm. Later, he was engaged in a real estate business. He had separated from his first wife and two children.
Amalorpavam was working as a servant maid at Stephan’s home. He fell in love with her and married her. Police said Stephan was involved in four murder cases in Chennai, and Amalorpavam was involved two murder cases with him. They were arrested by the Chennai city police, and they obtained conditional bail in 2016. Later, the couple went missing and the police were not able to trace the couple. A Chennai court issued a non-bailable warrant against the couple.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the couple had taken a house on rent at Kalikkanaickenpalayam near Vadavalli a few months ago. They were not able to pay the monthly rental amount of Rs 7,000 to the landlord. They came to know that the particular company’s call taxi drivers used to keep the amount in the cars’ dashboards and used to hand over the amount to the office once a week. So, they decided to rob the money from a cab driver.
On Tuesday night, the couple booked a call taxi. S Shanu, 31, of Mahalingapuram near Vellalore picked up the couple from a recreational club. The couple injected some drugs into his body with a gadget and murdered him. They took Rs 6,100 from the cab’s dashboard and two mobile phones from the vehicle.
They drove the car for a distance and abandoned it with the dead body in it. The family members of Shanu started to search for him and found the car with his body in it. The Thondamuthur police registered a case and arrested the couple.
