Chennai Corporation polls: Police to allow rallies and meetings in 168 locations | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: As many as 168 locations have been identified by the Chennai city police where rallies and meetings will be allowed ahead of the urban local body polls. The details of the locations will be available on the Greater Chennai Corporation‘s website.
Corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi has requested political parties to get permission from assistant revenue officers(AROs) for meetings and rallies.
Regarding the covid restrictions, Bedi said for campaigns, in closed halls, maximum 500 people or 50% capacity will be allowed. In open spaces, 1,000 people are allowed or 50% of the space. For this, parties should get permission from the AROs. The AROs will get police permission and communicate to the candidates.
The Greater Chennai Corporation has filed five police complaints for violation of model code of conduct and for not following the Covid protocols as campaigning for the upcoming urban local body polls has begun.
The civic body on Tuesday completed the randomization of the EVMs and finalized the wards where it would be allocated. A total of 5,794 polling booths will be set up. Booth randomization will be completed before February 15. The 22 distribution centers were inspected. The EVMs will be placed there on Tuesday night.
Training of 28,000 polling officials will begin on February 10. These officials will be given postal ballots. Candidate lists have been finalized. On February 12, the candidate symbols and names will be added into EVMs. Also, 15 counting centers have been kept ready. CCTV cameras have been placed in all centres. They will be installed in all polling booths as well a few days before the polling day.
Candidate ID cards and booth agent forms will be provided on Wednesday.
Flying squads of the Chennai Corporation have seized 16.15 lakh in cash, gifts and other items worth 1.26 crore.
A total of 500 staff members will be deployed for micro observers for election.
