One of the most massive railway networks globally, the Indian Railways helps more than 20 million people commute to their destinations every day. When passengers board the trains, the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) checks their tickets. However, do you know that the TTE has many other duties apart from ensuring that no one is travelling ticketless?

As per the Rail Manual, the Ticket Collector has to ensure that the doors of the train are locked carefully and no theft takes place. The Rail Manual specifies that these are the duties of the ticket collector. According to the manual, the passengers can file a complaint against him if he fails to complete it. As per the manual rules, these are the other duties of the TTE-

1. TTE should open the gates of the train only in the direction where it is approaching the platform. He must ensure that the gates on the other side should remain closed. Therefore, no person from the other side can board the train.

2. The ticket collector is responsible for closing the gate after the train has commenced on its journey.

3. If any passenger is hanging or sitting at the gate, then the Ticket collector will ask the commuter to not indulge in these things and take his or her seat.

How to File a Complaint Against TTE

1. If TTE is not providing you with station-related information while commuting by train, then you can complain on the number 139.

2. If you want to complain via SMS from your mobile, you can forward the complaint to 91-9717680982.

3. Passengers can tweet service-related complaints on @RailMinIndia.

As per reports, the Ministry of Railways is to run over 10,000 trains this summer due to the sudden rise in the number of passengers boarding trains. These include the Suvidha trains (formerly Premium trains), and Mail and Express trains. This surge in the number of passengers can be attributed to the ongoing elections.
