ChatGPT demand on Google hits a record high, China takes top interest

New Delhi: Searches for a text-based artificial intelligence tool called ChatGPT have hit a record high on Google and China is leading the demand, despite reports that local tech giants have expressed opposition to the tool.

Social media giant Tencent opted to remove programs related to ChatGPT from the WeChat platform. It is worth mentioning that ChatGPT is not yet officially available in the country.

According to data obtained by Finbold, global Google searches for the term ‘aChatGPT’ have reached a popularity score of 92.

The report noted, “The score reached 100 for the week ending January 11. Notably, the term registered a score of less than 1 until November 30, 2022, when the tool was launched.”

With respect to regional fragmentation, China is on top with a peak score of 100 as of January 13, followed by Nepal at 35, while Norway is third with a score of 28.

Singapore ranks fourth with a score of 27, while Israel is fifth with a score of 26.

Notably, US states have failed to feature among countries registering increased demand for ChatGPT, the report pointed out.

The high demand in China can be attributed to various factors such as users opting to avail Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

At the same time, there is a possibility for users to set up mirror sites to access the tool. In general, there is a possibility that the local Chinese tech giant will unveil similar products as mentioned in the report.

The AI chatbot developed by Microsoft-owned OpenAI is able to understand and respond to diverse human inputs, which has advanced ChatGPT to handle various tasks, such as writing code, and generating content, etc.

The tool can also be leveraged in the financial markets for tasks such as providing trading insights.

“In this line, the tool can also be used to offer price predictions for various financial assets such as stocks and cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin (BTC) for the end of 2023 and beyond,” the report added.

Despite the early success of ChatGPT, the technology still needs to overcome several hurdles in the way of development and adoption.

“For example, ChatGPT needs more information on current events as its knowledge is limited to 2021. As a result, search engines have the upper hand on their ability to provide real-time information,” the report said.
