Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said all deaths due to lack of oxygen during the second wave of COVID-19 in the city would be probed if the Center allows the Delhi government to form a panel.

He accused the Center of trying to “hide its mistake” and alleged that its “mismanagement” and changes in oxygen delivery policy after April 13 led to shortage of life-saving gas in hospitals across the country, leading to a “disaster”. ” happened. .

In an online briefing, Sisodia accused the BJP-led Center of not allowing the formation of a committee to probe the deaths due to lack of oxygen during the second wave of COVID-19 in Delhi.

He said, “The government shamelessly told white lies in Parliament. From April 15 to May 5 there was complete chaos due to lack of oxygen and it is no big deal that people will die due to lack of oxygen.”

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said the Kejriwal government, taking responsibility, tried to form a committee to audit all the deaths due to lack of oxygen, but the Center stopped it through the LG.

He claimed that the Center did not allow the constitution of the committee “for fear of exposing its mismanagement”. The Kejriwal government is still ready to conduct an independent audit of each death due to lack of oxygen if the Center allows it to form a committee, he said.

The Union government on Tuesday informed the Rajya Sabha that there were no deaths reported by states and union territories during the second COVID-19 wave, especially due to lack of oxygen.

But during the second wave there was an unprecedented increase in the demand for medical oxygen and it reached around 9,000 MT as compared to 3,095 MT in the first wave, following which the Center had to step in to facilitate equitable distribution among the states.
