Chandigarh: Panic, Tracking Buttons to be Mandatory in all Public Vehicles from Jan 31

The order has been issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

These rules are being implemented by Chandigarh Union Territory Administration after the order is issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

It has been made applicable to vehicles in UT Chandigarh under rule 125(h) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, sub-rule 5 of rule 90 and sub-rule 1 of rule 129 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, the state transport department said in its notification.

The State Transport Authority has started the work of installing vehicle location tracking and emergency alerts in public vehicles on June 30, 2022.

So far, VLT and EA (Vehicle Location Tracking and Emergency Alert) have been installed in 35 percent of the buses.
