Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Election Result 2021 LIVE: The counting of votes for the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections is underway and the result is expected to be declared by Monday afternoon, officials said. He said that nine counting centers have been set up for 35 wards of the Municipal Corporation and the counting of votes started at 9 am.

According to State Election Commission, Aam Aadmi Party wins in 4 wards, leads in 3, BJP wins in 2 wards, leads in 3 wards, Congress wins in 2 wards and leads, Shiromani Akali Dal leads in one ward Is.

More than 60 percent voting was recorded in the elections held here on Friday. The number of wards has increased from 26 in 2016 to 35 now.

Traditionally, municipal elections held every five years see a close contest between the BJP and the Congress, but the entry of the Aam Aadmi Party has made the contest triangular this time. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has a majority in the present municipal body.

In the last MC elections, the BJP had won 20 and its former ally Shiromani Akali Dal one seat. The Congress was successful in winning only four seats. The BJP fought the elections on the basis of its “achievements” in the last five years.

Congress and AAP, on the other hand, targeted the BJP for allegedly failing to do development work and criticized it for going down the city in the “Swachh Survekshan” (a ranking for cleanliness) ranking.
