Chandigarh Extends Winter Holidays in Schools Till January 21 Amid Cold Wave

All government, government-aided and private schools in Chandigarh will remain closed in view of the cold wave-like situation.

The Chandigarh Administration has extended the winter vacation in schools up to class 8 till January 21, 2023. In view of the cold wave like situation, all government, government aided and private schools in Chandigarh will remain closed. As per the order, the schools will reopen on January 23.

district Education Office, Chandigarh issued an order on Friday notifying all schools in the region to extend the winter vacation. It may be noted that the winter vacation has been extended for classes up to class VIII. Schools will continue to run for classes 9 to 12 as per earlier instructions.

Earlier, the Haryana government had also extended the winter vacation for schools till January 21. Schools were to reopen in the state on January 16. The Haryana government has extended the winter vacation in government and private schools.

The schools will now reopen on January 23. However, in view of the board exams, students of class 10th and 12th will have to continue attending school. Preboards will also continue as per schedule. Like the previous schedule, classes for class 10 and 12 will be held from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Teachers teaching additional classes will be granted leave as per departmental rules.

Meanwhile, cold wave conditions are also forecast over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from January 16 to 18 and over Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh from January 17 to January 18.

Apart from Haryana, several states including Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Assam and others have announced winter break for schools.
