‘Challenge You, Name Him Openly’: Mumbai Mayor To BJP Leader On Minister ‘Atending’ In Karan Johar’s Party

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Monday accused BJP leader and MLA Ashish Shelar of attending a ‘super spreader’ party organized by Bollywood director Karan Johar. Shelar was referring to the same party where megastars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Amrita Arora and Maheep Kapoor tested positive for COVID 19.

He said, ‘I want to challenge Ashish Shelar and ask him to openly name the minister. Making false claims without naming any minister seems to be a new trend of the opposition.

The BMC has footage from all the CCTV cameras from Karan’s residence, which clearly shows the truth, “If he has evidence, let him prove it”. The mayor also said that during the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Shelar had made similar allegations but no evidence of this was ever placed before the public.

This comes as the Mumbai civic body capped the number of people attending all indoor celebrations of Christmas and New Year to 50, to prevent the spread of the heavily mutated version of Omicron. BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has also appealed to citizens to avoid gatherings and parties during the upcoming Christmas festival and New Year, and warned of strict action against those violating the rules. In a press release, he said that despite repeated appeals by the government and administration to prevent a possible third wave of COVID-19, the guidelines are not being followed properly in most places – especially wedding ceremonies. And in other celebrations, there is a need to stop the increasing crowd in such events. Chahal asked the citizens to strictly follow the rules regarding attendance at weddings and other functions.

So far 54 cases of Omicron variant have been reported in Maharashtra. Of these, 22 are from Mumbai, including cases detected through screening at the international airport here, according to official data.
