Union Minister for Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan said here on Saturday that the National Education Policy (NEP) is not a document of few pages, but it has many new features for the benefit of the students.

Addressing the 34th convocation of the Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women in the city, Pradhan said the central government is open to ideas and new approaches when it comes to NEP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that everyone should learn mother tongue and NEP will help in learning, reading and writing in mother tongue in the foundational years, he said and added that the government has asked the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to publish books in all Indian languages ​​from this academic year.

He said that studying in the mother tongue will lead to better overall development of the children and India’s education is focused on employment, empowerment and knowledge.

Describing technology as the new disruption, the Union Minister said that millions of people use mobile phones. “Internet and smart phones are basic necessities and we were dependent on foreign technologies like Android or iOS. However, IIT Madras has developed the technology for indigenous 5G a few days ago.”

Referring to the COVID-19 vaccines, Pradhan said, “Indians have taken the vaccine, but no one in the world has got the certificate within seconds of taking it like our country. This is the kind of technology that we are developing in India.” Highlighting about women empowerment, the Union Minister said, “Tamil Nadu is far ahead of the rest of the country and the state has the largest number of working women in the country. is more. Later, replying to a question on reduction in budget allocation for NEP, the Union Minister said that it was misinformation. “The government and the finance ministry are fully supporting the new education policy and more funds will be allocated in the next budget,” he added.
