Delhi LG Vinay Kumar Saxena congratulates Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday took another dig at the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinay Kumar Saxena. Party MLA Atishi said that it appears that the Center had sent her to interfere in the work of the Kejriwal government and stay away from law and order, the Press Trust of India reported.

Addressing a press conference, Atishi claimed that the LG had not acted on some serious crimes committed in the city since assuming office, but was “interfering” in the business of the Delhi government.

“After taking oath, he had said that he is not a person sitting in air-conditioned offices and he will stay on the ground. Several heinous crimes have taken place in the national capital in the last 10 days,” he said.

“An auto-rickshaw driver was stabbed to death in Sangam Vihar on May 27. Did he go to Sangam Vihar police station,” he asked.

Atishi also referred to the alleged sexual assault of a woman in Jor Bagh and an alleged altercation of a police officer with a woman and asked why the LG did not take strict action in these cases.

“Dwarka DCP recently misbehaved with a woman in a restaurant in Kailash Colony. Did the LG convene a meeting of all the officers of Delhi Police on this matter? It seems they have been asked by the Center to stay away from the issue of law. It has been said and ordered and mandated to intervene in the affairs of the Kejriwal-led Delhi government,” he said.

The tussle between AAP and the Lt Governor started last Wednesday when some AAP MLAs accused him of interfering in the work of the Delhi government.

On Saturday, the AAP again accused Saxena of interfering and “conspiracy” to derail democracy, as he visited two facilities of the Delhi Jal Board and a sewage treatment plant, a measure that was taken by Kejriwal. The party led had said that it was out of their jurisdiction.
