Centre invites K Chandrasekhar Rao for Telangana liberation day event | Hyderabad News – Times of India

HYDERABAD: As the Centre has decided to celebrate 75 years of Hyderabad state liberation beginning from September 17, union minister for culture and tourism G Kishan Reddy invited Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to attend the inaugural event.
The Centre also invited chief ministers of Karnataka and Maharashtra as they were part of erstwhile Hyderabad state.
Since the programmes are being planned for one year till September 17, 2023, the union minister requested the Telangana government to identify events and commemorations throughout the year and share these plans with the Centre so that a holistic approach can be taken in planning the yearlong commemorations.
Kishan Reddy, who wrote a letter to CM KCR on Saturday said Maharashtra and Karnataka have been commemorating September 17 as Marathwada Liberation day and Hyderabad-Karnataka Liberation Day respectively.
“The 75th year celebrations give us an opportunity to celebrate it across the three states in a befitting manner. The objective is to make the current generation, both from the region under consideration and the rest of the country, aware of the story of resistance, valour, and sacrifice am further happy to inform you that the Centre proposes to launch these celebrations at Hyderabad, which was the epicentre of the struggle for freedom,” the union minister said.
While India became independent in 1947, although 562 princely states announced the merger into the Indian Union, there was resistance from the erstwhile state of Hyderabad. On September 17, 1948, more than one year after India secured Independence from the British, the erstwhile state of Hyderabad, comprising the entire states of Telangana and some districts in Maharashtra and Karnataka, got independence from the Nizam’s rule.
