Karwar: Three member team of central observers visited the flood affected areas Uttara Kannada District on Monday to assess the damages claimed by the state government. The team visited Yellapur and Ankola taluks, which were hit by floods.
The team included additional secretary Kailash Sankhla. Rural Development DepartmentSV Jayakumar, Chief Engineer National Highways Department and Srinivas Reddy, Liaison Officer of the State Govt.
The team members visited Kalche and Gullapur villages of Yellapur taluk and Shirur village of Ankola taluk.
Massive landslides are still taking place in Kalche. A bridge was washed away in Gullapur during last month’s floods. Shirur village was damaged during the floods. The team members spoke to the villagers and assured them that the complete picture would be presented to the government.
Before the central team’s tour of the affected village Mulai MugilanThe Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada informed the team about the damage caused by the rains and floods. There was widespread destruction of public and private property during 22 and 25 July. Homes, fields, bridges and agricultural crops were completely destroyed during the floods and rains. As per the estimates of the state government, as per the guidelines of NDRF, the total loss was Rs 827 crore and the compensation demanded was Rs 863.
Zilla Panchayat CEO Priyanga M, Sirsi Assistant Commissioner Aakriti Bansal were present.
