Center approves appointments to tribunals after Supreme Court ultimatum

The eight judicial members are Justice Telprolu Rajani (Judge, Andhra Pradesh High Court), Justice Pradeep Narhari Deshmukh (Former Judge of Bombay High Court), Justice S Ramathilagam (Former Judge of Madras High Court), Dharminder Singh (Bench Officer, DRT-3). The Center has said that these appointments are for a term of five years or till these members attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. It also appointed 13 new judicial members to the ITAT – six judicial members and seven accountants.

Four judicial members have been removed from the unreserved category, one from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category and one from the Scheduled Castes (SC) category.

Five of the accountant members are from the unreserved category, one from the OBC category and one from the Supreme Court category.

These appointments are for a term of four years or till these members attain the age of 67 years, whichever is earlier.

The judicial members are Sanjay Sharma (Advocate), S Sitalakshmi, (Advocate), Shatin Goel (Additional District and Sessions Judge), Anubhav Sharma (Additional District and Sessions Judge), TR Senthil Kumar (Advocate) and Manohar Das (Law Officer). State Bank of India).

The Supreme Court was hearing a petition on September 6 by Congress leader and MP Jairam Ramesh and others challenging the constitutional validity of various provisions of the Tribunal Reforms Act, 2021.
