Celebrated the birth anniversary of Chetan ‘The Fearless’ Chauhan

Chetan Pratap Singh Chauhan, popularly known as Chetan Chauhan, was the epitome of fearlessness. Be it a match, a field or a stadium, Chauhan’s sweat will not break. Born on July 21, 1947, a resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Chauhan played an important role in India’s success from the 1970s to the 1980s. Opening with Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar, the pair of both were dangerous. Chauhan’s grit and relentlessness, along with Gavaskar’s grit and relentlessness, made both the openers hailed as one of the greatest pairings of all time.

Coached by former Maharashtra cricketer Kamal Bhandarkar, Chauhan played at the university level and shone with his performances, especially in the Interzonal Vizi Trophy, he was included in the Maharashtra team in 1967. The ‘fearless’ Chauhan continued to impress in the Interzonal Tournament. . After scoring a century in the final of the Duleep Trophy, Chauhan was included in the Indian cricket team in 1969–1970.

Since being called up in the Indian cricket team, the opener has played 40 Test matches in his career where he scored a total of 2084 runs. Chauhan also played 7 One Day Internationals (ODIs) in which he has scored only 153 runs.

After retiring from cricket, Chauhan turned to politics, where he was twice elected to the Lok Sabha from Amroha, UP, in 1991 and 1998. The former India opener was also appointed as the chairman of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) from 2016 to 2017. .

From 2018 to 2020, Chouhan was the youth and sports minister in Uttar Pradesh. In 2020, Chouhan was tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Due to complications and multiple organ failure, the player passed away on August 16, 2020 at the age of 73.
