As per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, every school must ensure that its teachers attend at least 50 hours of CPD.

central board of secondary Education (CBSE) has established 16 Centers of Excellence (CoE) in different parts of the country for in-service training of teachers in all its affiliated schools. These centers have been set up to ensure Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to teachers. As per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, every school has to ensure that its teachers attend at least 50 hours of CPD.

The bye-laws of the Central Board of Secondary Education require teachers to attend training programs conducted by the Board for at least 25 hours. The remaining hours must be met through other sources. The resources to complete the training should be arranged by the respective education departments of the State or Union Territory.

The COEs will conduct training under two categories – general and subject specific. A CBSE statement mentioned, “There are 23 training courses aligned with Class X and XII subjects, while there are 22 general courses ranging from Adolescent Education Programme, Art Integration, Inclusive Education, Happy Classroom, Cyber Safety and Security.”

According to a report in Indian Express, a high-powered committee was constituted by the board regarding quality training of teachers. Each State or Union Territory shall plan a centralized annual training calendar from April to March with specific requirements for training purposes.

Under the annual training calendar, it will be ensured that every government teacher receives at least 25 hours of training, which will be organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education, State Government or Regional Teacher Training Institutes. The remaining 25 hours of CPD will have to be arranged by the school itself.

Reports also suggest that all teacher training processes have been finalized in partnership with state governments and union territories. They will sponsor and register online for the training of teachers from their government, government-aided and public-private partnership (PPP) schools on the training portal of the board.

Recently, a total of 124 Secondary (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) government schools in Ladakh have been affiliated to CBSE. In addition, a total of 1,000 government schools in Andhra Pradesh have also adopted the CBSE curriculum.
