central board of secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the adoption of National Curriculum Framework for Foundation Stage (NCFFS) 2022 implementation from the academic session 2023-24. The new framework has been developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on the lines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Through an official notice, CBSE said that it is adopting the new structure of NCFFS 2022 and five-year education (that is, from Nursery to Class 2) from the session 2023-24. The new curriculum will be adopted in CBSE affiliated schools, which exclusively provide education at the foundational level to students in the age group of 3 to 8 years.
The NCFFS 2022 has been developed with the objective of “outlining the competencies and learning outcomes, general principles and approaches that should guide teaching and learning at the foundational level,” the official notice mentioned. In addition, the new framework will serve as a guideline or requirement for schools and teachers to design or develop curriculum, syllabi and teaching materials.
Learning materials will include many examples and illustrations to help explain abstract concepts, reinforce learning as well as make new ideas and concepts more accessible to practicing teachers. Plus, countless examples are included to enhance understanding, foster engagement, and broaden the concept in concrete ways that can be applied to day-to-day teaching. The notice states that it is important that teachers look at these illustrations and contextualise them according to the needs and context of the children.
The official notification directs, “Such schools which are offering classes 1 to 10 or 12 may make efforts to gradually increase the infrastructure requirements to include pre-primary classes, already Schools running foundational classes may continue to offer 3 years of pre-primary education.” Meanwhile, schools can also check the NCFFS 2022 document which is available on the official website of NCERT.
