CBI arrests senior GST intelligence officer for taking bribe of Rs 60 lakh

The CBI has arrested a senior intelligence officer working in the office of Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) in Ghaziabad for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 60 lakh. Officials gave this information on Sunday.

He said a businessman had complained to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that the officer had made an alleged demand of Rs 1 crore to favor his father in an ongoing case against him. Following the complaint, the CBI has registered a case against officer Mohit Dhankhar for allegedly demanding bribe, officials said.

CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said, “It was further alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 1 crore through private persons/brokers to show official side to the complainant’s father at DGGI, Ghaziabad.”

He said the agency laid a trap and caught a private person, Rakesh Sharma, while accepting a bribe of Rs 60 lakh as the first installment on behalf of a public servant. Later, Dhankhar was also apprehended, officials said. “The premises of the accused are being searched today,” Joshi said.
