Noida, on the other hand, is taking some action and fining those not wearing masks. Over 10,850 people have been fined in the district since December 1 last year and a fine of Rs 10.85 lakh has been collected. There are 342 Public Address Systems functioning in the district. At the same time, nine cases have also been registered under section 188 of IPC.
Visits to various markets in both the districts revealed that most of the people were violating the face mask rule. In Ghaziabad, local markets in Turab Nagar, Ghanta Ghar, Navyug Bazar witnessed crowds, with most people not wearing masks. Despite the huge spurt in cases, the local police did not seem concerned about the situation.
When contacted, Ghaziabad SSP Pawan Kumar He said that he would instruct the police to issue challans. “We are issuing challans in public places but more importantly we are making people aware of the benefits of masks.” Ghaziabad alone has reported 9,489 cases since January 1, while the district has over 9,000 active cases who are undergoing treatment in hospitals or homes.
Most of the local shopkeepers were seen wearing masks in Sector 18 market in Noida, but the same cannot be said about the visitors. rinky saxena, a local shopkeeper said, “During the day, the police patrol the area and make announcements and even issue challans. But, people hardly seem scared.”
on contact, Ranvijay Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, said that the police is working proactively and ensuring that the government orders are followed. “We are running campaigns across the district and spreading awareness. We are also issuing challans against those who violate COVID norms,” ​​he told TOI.
So far, more than 11,200 cases have been reported in GB Nagar in January. Other districts in the Meerut region – Meerut, Bulandshahr Baghpat – and Hapur are also very slow to take violators into action.
