Police have registered a case against unidentified persons for allegedly unlawful assembly following a protest by Samajwadi Party workers outside the Uttar Pradesh police headquarters here over the arrest of a party leader.

A case has been registered against unknown persons under Indian Penal Code section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and CrPC section 144 (prohibiting unlawful assembly), said Shailendra Giri, Home Officer, Sushant Golf City Police Station. has gone. ,

The case was registered late on Sunday night, he said.

Samajwadi Party leader Manish Jagan Agarwal was arrested on Sunday for allegedly making derogatory remarks on social media following a complaint by a BJP youth wing functionary that he was threatened with rape and murder. The police had also registered a case against the complainant after the Samajwadi Party accused him of making objectionable remarks against its MP Dimple Yadav.

Soon after the arrest of Agarwal, who was associated with SP’s social media cell, the party chief Akhilesh Yadav and supporters protested at the state police headquarters demanding his release.
