A case has been registered against the Thane Police School headmistress and her lady clerk for alleged misappropriation of over Rs 20 lakh, an official said on Friday. A case has been registered against the school’s headmistress Smita Rajalakshmi Nair and junior clerk Neelam Milind Kamble, a Thane Nagar police station official said. Both were booked under sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 467, 468, 471, 475 (all relating to forgery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He said that both are accused of misappropriating money of Rs 20,53,621.

The school is owned by Thane Police Commissionerate and run by a private trust, the complaint said, adding that the fraud took place between 2008 and 2021. The accused misused the money to prepare ID cards for the students to pay for the extra classes to the teachers. The complaint states that the registration fee of class 12 students, fees of invigilators of board exams, scholarship of students among other things. Police said audit of the accounts of the school revealed that the duo had committed fraud, following which the school trust lodged a complaint against them.
