In a proud moment for India, Captain Abhilasha Barak on Wednesday became the first woman fighter aviator of the Indian Army. He was awarded the coveted ‘Wings’ along with 36 Army pilots at a ceremony held at the Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik, officials said.

“Captain Barak became the first woman officer to join the Army Aviation Corps as a Combat Aviator after successfully completing the Combat Army Aviation Course,” an official said.

Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information tweeted, “Golden day in the history of Indian Army Aviation. Capt Abhilasha Barak becomes the first woman officer to join #ArmyAviationCorps as a fighter aircraft carrier after successful completion of training.”

Captain Barak hails from Haryana and was commissioned in the Army Air Defense Corps in September 2018. She is the daughter of Col S Om Singh (Retd). The official said that Captain Abhilasha has done several professional military courses before joining the Army Aviation Corps.
