Canada: 20-year-old Indian student dies after being hit, dragged by truck

New Delhi: Various reports have emerged informing the murder of a 20-year-old Indian student in Toronto, Canada. According to media reports, the Indian boy was hit and dragged by a pickup truck while he was crossing the road on a bicycle.

Police have yet to identify the victim, but news website cbc.ca quoted the victim’s cousin, Parveen Saini, as saying that “Karthik Saini came to Canada from India in August 2021.”

Parveen also hoped that Karthik’s body would be sent to India for a proper burial as per the customs. Meanwhile, Sheridan College also confirmed that Karthik was a student there.

“Our community is deeply saddened by Karthik’s sudden death. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and professors,” the college said in an email on Friday.

Toronto Police Service spokeswoman Constable Laura Brabant said the matter is under investigation.

“It takes time to decide whether or not to press charges because investigators must first conduct a full investigation,” Brabant said. He also said, “It takes time and it is not a rushed process.”
