Canada: On Thursday, 15 people, mostly senior citizens, were killed when a semi-trailer truck collided with a vehicle at a highway intersection in a rural part of Manitoba province. According to Canadian police, another 10 people were reported injured. Rob Hill, commanding officer of the Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police, said a total of 25 people were on the bus at the time of the accident. Authorities are making all-out efforts to deploy all their resources to the scene in the province.

The injured were shifted to hospitals

Ten people injured in a Manitoba highway crash were taken to hospitals. TV broadcasters broadcast images of what looked like a large van or bus in a ditch near a transport truck with a broken engine on a road. The sidewalk was littered with debris—broken glass, a large bumper and what looked like a walking aid. The AP reported that seven blue and yellow wires were pulled out.

Ambulance helicopters have been dispatched from Winnipeg and Regina to the scene to provide all resources.

Canadian PM expressed grief

“The news from Carberry, Manitoba is incredibly sad.” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave this information by tweeting. “I am sending my deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones today, and I am keeping the injured in my thoughts. I cannot imagine the pain those affected are feeling – but Canadians here are for you.”

Manitoba’s highway crash evoked memories of a 2018 bus crash in neighboring Saskatchewan that killed 16 people on the Humboldt Broncos minor league hockey team.
