Lucknow: After Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav shared a picture of a recent meeting of Mulayam Singh and Lalu Yadav in Delhi, speculation was rife about new developments ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh elections. Bar’s political experts dismissed the discussion, saying the meeting was personal in nature as the two veteran leaders share a family ties.
Yadav shared the picture on Monday. Lalu, who was recently out on bail, had also met some senior Congress leaders a few days before meeting Mulayam and Akhilesh in Delhi. As a result, a possible last-minute alliance with Congress is being speculated.
Senior journalist and political commentator Parvez Ahmed told News18, “Both Lalu and Mulayam are in-laws. Both are senior leaders and have played an important role in their time. But now the times have changed, especially when it comes to the Samajwadi Party. The party has grown and now its reins have come in the hands of Akhilesh Yadav, whose political work is different from that of his father.
“The meeting between Lalu and Mulayam is not going to create any political surprise in the UP elections to be held in 2022. Lalu has been loyal to the Congress for over a decade. But the Samajwadi Party has broken the alliance with many parties. I don’t think Samajwadi Party or Congress is going to forge any last minute alliance. They have tested the waters and the alliance has not worked for them, so they are not coming together again,” Parvez Ahmed said.
Meanwhile, SP spokesperson Anurag Bhadauria while commenting on the meeting between Lalu, Mulayam and Akhilesh said, “Mulayam and Lalu are comrades of the era of JP movement. There is a collaboration of 30 to 40 years between the two senior leaders. The two leaders met to inquire about each other’s well being. When two big leaders meet, it is natural to have talks on political issues.
