Renowned American election forecaster Allan Lichtman, known as the “Nostradamus of US presidential polls”, has used a set of 13 criteria to evaluate candidates

As both Republicans and Democrats are gearing up for 2024 US elections on November 5, professor Dr. Allan Lichtman, renowned for his ability to predict presidential polls, has predicted a winner of the highly-anticipated contest between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

In a recent video shared by the New York Times, Lichtman predicted that Democrats will retain power in the White House with Vice President Kamala Harris winning against former President Donald Trump.

Lichtman, who has gained prominence for his “Keys to the White House” system—a set of 13 criteria used to evaluate major party candidates—has predicted Harris to hold an edge in eight of these categories, while Trump is favored in three, the NewYork Post reported.

Lichtman, known as the “Nostradamus of US presidential polls”, asserts he has accurately predicted the outcome of every presidential election since 1984, though this claim is contested by some. For instance, in the 2000 election, he forecasted a win for Al Gore, who, despite securing the popular vote, lost the Electoral College to George W. Bush. Conversely, in 2016, Lichtman correctly anticipated Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, even though Trump lost the popular vote.

Critics, including Lars Emerson and Michael Lovito of the Postrider, argue that Lichtman’s record might not be as flawless as claimed, suggesting his streak might have faltered in either 2000 or 2016, depending on whether his “Keys” are interpreted to predict the popular vote or the Electoral College results.

Meanwhile, both candidates are preparing for the presidential debate in Philadelphia next week, marking their face-to-face meeting as the former president did attend President Biden’s inauguration.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has also thrown his weight behind Kamala Harris in US election, an apparent wry remark a day after the United States issued indictments accusing Moscow of vote interference.

“(Former US President Donald) Trump has imposed as many sanctions on Russia as any president has ever imposed before, and if Harris is doing well, perhaps she will refrain from such actions,” he said.

In February, Putin backed Biden over Trump, calling the current president more “predictable”. The White House called on Putin to “stay out” of US elections in response.
