Hundreds of students on Friday protested at Delhi University’s Indraprastha College for Women, demanding the resignation of Principal Poonam Kumaria, days after she was allegedly harassed during a festival.

On Tuesday, “unknown” men allegedly trespassed, shouted slogans and harassed girl students during the ‘Shruti’ festival at the college.

Carrying placards and raising slogans against Kumaria, students of the women’s college took out a march on the campus amid slogans “Poonam Kumaria istifa do (Poonam Kumaria resign)”.

Around 200 students have gathered here to protest against the incident. We are demanding action against the goons, resignation of the principal and setting up of GSCash (Gender Sensitization Committee against Sexual Harassment).

They also demanded action against the police personnel who allegedly manhandled the students who were detained after a protest on Wednesday.

Following the alleged incident on Tuesday, the police registered an FIR under sections 337 (causing hurt by act likely to endanger life or personal safety of others) and 188 (disobedience to order lawfully promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code. Registered and arrested seven people, he said.

An activist of the All India Students’ Association alleged that those who had trespassed were greeted with slogans “Miranda, IP dono hamara (Miranda House and Indraprastha College are both ours)” and “Miranda nahi choda to IP bhi chhodenge”. were heard Leave Miranda, we will not leave IP too)”.

The police, on its part, said that there was a huge crowd near the college gate during the fest.

Around 3 in the afternoon some very enthusiastic students hurriedly started entering the college. He told that in the process there was a lot of pressure on the gate and some students fell down.
