Australia captain Aaron Finch heaped praise on David Warner for his brilliant performance with the bat in the T20 World Cup. The left-hander smashed a 34-ball fifty against New Zealand in the Grand Finale on Sunday, setting the tone for Australia’s maiden title win. Black Caps lost the match by 8 wickets.
Warner won the Player of the Tournament award after a brilliant knock of 53 runs in 38 balls. The honor was nothing short of a fitting reply to his critics, who wrote to him a few months back, struggling to stay afloat between runs.

In a post-match press briefing, Finch revealed an interesting story. While no one believed Warner would be back on track in the T20 World Cup, it was the Australian captain who was sure that his opener was going to win the Man of the Tournament award.
“I called Justin Langer a few months ago and said: ‘Don’t worry about Davy, he’ll be man of the tournament’. He’s one of the greatest batsmen of all time. And he’s a fighter. He just happens to be that kind of person. “When his back is against the wall, that’s when you get the best of David Warner. It was a special end to the tournament for him, the last two innings,” Finch mentioned.

Warner scored 289 runs in seven matches with scores of 89*, 49 and 53 in the last three innings. He is now only the second player, after Kevin Pietersen, to win the Player of the Tournament award from a team that won the T20 World Cup.
