Cafe draws flak for charging use of loo that costs more than food – Times of India

They say nothing in life is free, but a Guatemalan cafe seems to have taken things quite literally! The La Esquina Coffee Shop is going viral for all the wrong reasons – after charging customers for using the toilet. Customer Nelsy Cordova was left stunned when she received the bill, which showed an additional charge for using the loo. Taking to Twitter, Nelsy shared a photo of her receipt, which featured a charge for ‘occupational space’ – that was her trip to the bathroom. In fact the use of the loo cost her more than the food. People have criticised the restaurant and labelled the charge as “scandalous”.
“Wow, (I’m surprised) they didn’t charge for air in the restaurant,” a user commented. “I’ve been there. It’s always empty, I wonder if it’s because of this,” another said. The cafe has since responded. In an statement, the restaurant said: “We regret the incident, it was a serious, involuntary error, which has been corrected in our system… (We are) already doing everything possible to contact the affected person to make refund.”
